s there good surf in Nicaragua?

The southern coast of Nicaragua has off-shore winds 90% of the year which makes Nicaragua a great surfing destination. The waves are usually empty and there are countless set ups up and down the coast. Nicaragua faces slightly south so the best time to surf is when there is good southern swell generally between March and November.

Northern swells will work at some beaches but it does not hit the coast as directly as the southern swells. There are reef breaks for advanced surfers and padded beach breaks for beginners. Renting a boat in San Juan del Sur is the best way to get to the waves, but many great breaks are accessible by car out of San Juan del Sur or in the Tola region.
