The road from Managua to San Juan del Sur is in great shape until the last 10 mile stretch from the Pan American highway to San Juan del Sur. Work is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2008 to improve this last bit of road.

The roads that lead to the beaches north and south of San Juan del Sur are dirt roads. It is highly recommended that you rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle to access these beaches.
